photo of the month

Hi,

I am following up yesterday's photo with an addendum. Mere hours after I sent out my photo, my friend - some of you have already figured out who it is - sent out a pretty major announcement that I wanted to share with you all.

Here it is in his own words...
I don't know what to say. It's the cherry on top of all these years of obsession – 13 to be precise. My story on Afghanistan's remote Kyrgyz community is out this month in National Geographic in the US, France and few many other countries. The magazine is celebrating its 125th anniversary - an exciting time to point my nose. I start to receive e-mails: people are touched. There is an Afghanistan they didn't expect. I am glad. For every country in the world you think you know what it's like, I guarantee you that if you scratch a bit, you will find many other shades of it that will surprise you. Nothing is ever just black or white. The reality is complex, sometimes harsh, but beauty is always there, waiting somewhere. Thanks to all the Nat Geo team who followed me on that difficult story, they know who they are - it is really something special to get into the belly of the NG beast.

I have never sent out more than one of these emails per month, but since it's about photography, I think this one is worth it.

Enjoy!
Randy
