Hi,

This month's photo may seem a bit strange - it's a photo of another photographer's work. But, as always, there's a story behind it.

This year was my fifth Burning Man, where this picture was taken. The first couple years we camped with friends' camps. But the next year we decided to just go on our own and see where we would end up. We found ourselves in a little randomly-formed village with some wonderful neighbors.

One of them was Nico, an amazing photographer who brought a whole mobile printing studio to the playa to gift his art....as a Burning Man virgin no less.

That was two years ago. The past two years we have been with our own theme camp called What Would Duct Tape Do? This year, for his second burn, Nico decided to join our camp and bring his printing studio.

So with some duct tape and the big yellow truck he drove in, we had a gorgeous gallery of our campmates (on top) as well as some phenomenal shots of others (below).

As I was trying to take this photo a little before sunset, anybody who was nearby would cast a shadow, so as I waited there with the camera poised one of our campmates who is a dancer, asked if I was waiting for him. I just said "shadow" and pointed to the truck. He made a move that I thought was to get out of the way, but as I snapped the picture, he made this balletic leap. His shadow looks like he's trying to hug the whole camp.

This image means a lot to me because it captures - in an instant - a lot of what makes Burning Man so precious: community, gifting, love, otherworldly beauty, spontaneity, connections, creativity, and duct tape.

Enjoy!
