photo of the month
from randy kato

Hi,

As this month's photo goes out to you all, it will mark a major change in my life. The photo's subject, Barbara, is at the heart of this change - I live with her now!

This past month has been a dizzying swirl of activity as we moved into a new studio/work space, cleared out my apartment and her old studio space, and made room in her apartment for me.

So this picture is quite appropriate to mark the occasion. It's hard to tell in the photo, but she is inside an interactive art piece. It's a cylinder made up of LED light strips that are programmed to change colors and patterns. The viewer stands inside and then the whole thing is spun around to give them an incredible visual experience...a dizzying swirl of lights.

But the show isn't just for the one inside the cylinder. There is enough space between the light strips that everybody around can see in (as evidenced by this picture), and it's often the reactions of the person inside that are the most entertaining.

In case you have been with me since the beginning of these emails, or if you've explored the archive, here's a bit of trivia. The first Photo of the Month was about Barbara, and she "appears" in at least four of them. Think you know which four?

Enjoy!
Randy
