photo of the month
from randy kato

Hi,

I usually choose a photo for specific reasons. In the month leading up to each of these emails there are often a number of signs that lead me right to the appropriate image.

Not this month. I waited, I pondered, and then I found myself literally in the 11th hour with...nothing.

So this month's photo - for no particular reason - is an image from Fire Island, NY. This is one of my favorite shots.

It's a favorite not only because it was a great day at the beach with friends, but because of how the image turned out. I shot this with a long lens and a wide open aperture, giving it that shallow depth of field. I also focused it just short of the subject, softening him.

The overall effect is that it takes on almost watercolor painting appearance. This effect, applied to this scene with the shirt and hat and little fluffy clouds, makes for a dreamlike image.

Enjoy!
Randy
