photo of the month from randy kato Photographs don't always have to be all about the subject(s) captured in the image. Sometimes they simply look cool. This month's image is one of those. I love the colors, the shapes, and the way it almost appears 3D even though it isn't.* Aside from its aesthetic, it's also just playful and fun. I'm not going to go into all the technical details of what went into capturing this photo; it's best to preserve the mystery. However, I will tell you a little about the surroundings... One night in January, the bustling metropolis slows to a crawl - muffled by a massive snowstorm - and in the middle of it all people party in bikinis. You see, there's a hotel in midtown Manhattan that has a rather unconventional lobby. It's basically made up of a sauna (both steam and dry), a swimming pool, and a bar with a service window that opens directly to the pool. Add a couple of great DJs, and the party throws itself. Enjoy! Randy *OK, I just put on a pair of the old-fashioned blue/red 3D glasses and I guess because of the mix of blues and reds in the image it actually does have a bit of a 3D effect!
